Yan Jun + Ash Reid

We have been waiting for this moment for a while. Back in 2021 Yan Jun made a wonderful podcast for us as part of our Counterflows at Home Festival, mapping the sounds of everyday life in Beijing and its underground music scene. Now he has at last made it to Counterflows where we can experience one of his unpredictable live performances, taking its cues from conceptual art, fluxus, performance art, extreme electronics and more.

Opening the bill will be Scotland’s Ash Reid, who works with sounds, texts and rhythms to explore historic layering as a compositional practice, and to think about contemporary rituals of work and instances of revolt. We’ve fleetingly said in the past her work fits in somewhere between Chantal Akerman and Robert Ashley, but come to see for yourself…
