How to get here
Platform is a venue and restaurant under the train arches next to Glasgow Central train station. There are blistered drop curbs and beeping crossings in the nearby area.
Bus
There are many bus stops nearby but the nearest bus stop to the venue is Argyle Street and the buses that stop here are 1, 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 2, 3, 4, 4A, 9, 9A, 10, 29C, 38, 38A, X4.
Train and Subway
The nearest subway station is St Enoch which is around a 15 minute walk from the venue at a leisurely pace. This station is step-free and wheelchair accessible, it has escalators and lifts.The journey from the station is step-free. The nearest train station is Glasgow Central train station, the station has step-free routes and is wheelchair accessible. The journey from the station to the venue takes around 5 minutes at a leisurely pace and is step-free.
Taxi
There is no on-street parking directly outside the venue but the drivers will know the safest and nearest place to stop. If you are at the venue and need a staff member to call a taxi for you or help you order a taxi please speak to someone who is described as below in the staff section. We recommend Glasgow Taxis, their phone number is: 0141 429 7070.
Drive
There is no on-street parking directly outside the venue but there is a pay and display car park on Midland Street called NCP Glasgow Central. It is a seven minute journey from the car park to the venue at a leisurely pace.
Staff
This event will be supported by two staff teams, one from the venue and one from Counterflows Festival. Platform staff wear all black clothing. Counterflows Staff and Volunteers wear black t-shirts with a Counterflows 2023 design on them:
The staff will be scattered around the venue and will be present to assist with opening doors, finding a seat and any other support requests you have.
There will also be security on site who will be checking guest’s bags on entry.
Building Entrance
The entrance for the Counterflows event is not main entrance but around the corner on Midlands Street. From main entrance turn left or head west to Hope Street and take another left at Hope Street towards the river Clyde. Then take the first right, This is Midlands Street.
There is one entrance to the venue, through the large doorway in the front of the venue. This entrance is step-free. Once inside there is another set of double doors which are always open and which lead into the venue.
Tickets will be checked at the door by a staff member. You can provide either digital tickets on your phone or a paper print out.
Performance Space
This venue is all on one ground floor and is step-free. There is a bar which will be providing alcoholic and soft drinks to purchase. The performance will happen on a raised stage.
The event will situated in Arch 5.
The venue has seating and tables.
Seating
The seating options available are unpadded chairs with backs and no arms or unpadded benches with no backs.
General Environment
Platform is a large music venue, restaurant and bar on a busy road under a train bridge next to the train station. Outside the venue is loud, echoey and busy and the bright lighting under the tunnel directly in front of the venue was flickering giving a strobe effect. Inside it has a high arch red brick ceiling with dark grey walls and floors. It’s a vast space with several open-plan connecting long arched rooms. The flooring is smooth and plain dark grey with no pattern. The lighting is fairly soft throughout and some colour lighting is used on the walls. There is a small outside area with seating and tables.
Toilets
This venue has an accessible toilet and toilets with cubicles and urinals. Unfortunately we were not able to see them during our visit and so we don’t have an image, description or directions. Please ask a staff member when you are there to direct you to them if needed.
Performance: Saturday 8th of April: DJ Travella + Cara Tolmie / Rian Treanor + Nour Mobarak:
- You can leave and re-enter the space at any time during the performances
- Lights will be on before and after each performance, but there will be less lighting and dedicated stage lighting during the performances.
- Caregivers are more than welcome to attend this event, but afraid this event will not be suitable for children.
- This event will be quite loud, in particular DJ Travella’s performance, which involves constant fast, bass-heavy beats.
Emergency Evacuation
Fire exits are marked with lit-up green emergency signage. Staff will guide you out of the building. The emergency exits are all on the ground floor and are step-free.
