Thank You
Since the cancellation of the 2020 edition of Counterflows we have puzzled over what we could possibly deliver for our 10th edition of the festival “Counterflows At Home April 2021”. How could Counterflows be realised without performance or gathering together? Quite early on we agreed that we didn’t want to present something that would attempt to replicate a live experience. We wanted to create something new: something that would explore more in-depth the ideas that we normally let percolate through the physical festival. How can we connect with people and share artists’ work and lives when physical contours are taken away?
And what an epic journey it has been for all the Counterflows team and all the artists. We have been truly amazed at what all the artists involved have created, really pushing out all the stops to make such a generous, insightful and challenging range of work. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
Annea Lockwood, Mazen Kerbaj, Nakul Krishnamurty, Nrithya Pillai, Quinie, Thefuries, Jan Yun, Edward George, Soft Tissue, Nazar, Serafine1369 & Young Nettle, Susie Ibarra, Michele Koppes, Helena Celle, Sam Green & all who were involved in our Community Interventions.
And thanks to all the artists that created our amazing zine and tape: Helen Charman, Hussein Mitha,Timothea Armour, Food People, Katie Stone, Sing Yun Lee, Layla-Rozanne Hill, Kieran Curran, Nat Raha, Malcy Duff, Mazen Kerbaj, Nkem Okwechime, Tricia Mercer-David, Chris Mason & Al White.
Of course Counterflows is such a huge collective endeavour and this year everyone has pulled together and created what has been a revelatory experience. We thank you all: Joel White for curating and editing the marvelous Counterflows On Paper zine, Oliver Pitt for yet more beautiful designs, Rectangle (Lizzie and Dan) who created the most brilliant platform for all the work counterflows.com, Alannah Chance and Steve Urquhart for their incredible podcast production and more, Gordon Bruce for bringing the tape to life, Emmie McKluskey for marshalling the live events so skillfully and gently, Kate Molleson and Claire Sawer for their deft questioning, Khyam Allami & Edward Sanderson & Stewart Smith for their illuminating interviews, John Stevens (the new dad) for press and a whole lot more, Gavin Robertson keeping the mail-outs flowing, Sarah Myles for podcast certifying, Brian Irvine & Rory Haye & Lauren McCormick Foden & all the tutors & participants of our Community Interventions & Matilda Strang for managing the project, Good Press for the glorious printing…
And of course our ever expanding audience, we are deeply appreciative of the time and commitment that you have spent at Counterflows At Home. The reach and scope of people engaging with the festival across the planet has been one of the most satisfying things to see. As we stuff the envelopes with our zine and tape it is wonderful to see where people are from: Japan, China, USA, France, Belgium, Poland, Germany, Australia and on and on. Here’s hoping we can see you again, perhaps next year in the physical world.
Of course all this would not happen without the continued support of our funders and in these difficult times we are even more grateful for their support: Creative Scotland, Goethe Institut-Glasgow, PRS Foundation and British Council.
Thank you, Alasdair & Fielding
