The curtain comes down on the festival at The Ferry, home to many reputable rock and roll cover bands, but tonight home to something a bit different.

The evening opens with new work by Max Syedtollan in collaboration with Counterflows Music Space. Max’s work – documented on the recent wonderful releases on GLARC and 33-33 – is playful and absurd, whilst motivated by interests in politics, history and philosophy. Music Space is a new year-long bursary programme produced by Counterflows which launched in March 2022. It has been set up for young people (18–24) who are based in Glasgow, and who are interested in exploring sound and music.

Flying over from Marseille, Donna Candy come with their heavy sound, trawled from the bizarre and sonic sub-genres of experimental rock. Heavy bass riffs, switch- pitched fuzz vocals and frenetic drums melt as unsettling narratives and extreme loops emerge. The band’s live act takes the audience to multi-layered, emotional yet physically densified sonic states.

Closing the festival will be RON-PON, a fellow audacious French group who explore a minimalist and grandiloquent improvised rock land where synthesizers join electric guitars, drums, drum machines and voice in a raucous and lyrical whirlwind. Many will remember The Humming Dogs’ epic performance at Counterflows a few years back, so we’re delighted to present this new group from its key members.

Afterward we’ll be keeping The Ferry open for some goodbye drinks and hanging out, with DJs on the decks.
