Pleased to welcome composer, saxophonist and theorist Hafez Modirzadeh to Scotland for the first time. Focusing on his “chromodal” concept, a cross-cultural musical approach developed from American jazz and Iranian dastgah heritages, he’ll present work on saxophone in collaboration with pianist Alexander Hawkins. With eight piano keys re-tuned and the remainder left in equal temperament, the music explores the coexistence of familiar with unfamiliar, and in the process, discovers new logic and mysterious beauty within.
