Ryu Hankil – Rubber Balloon Orchestra Workshop (all ages)
This workshop explores basic physical acoustic phenomena and interesting sound effects through simple crafting.
Using objects including a rubber balloon, a cup and a rubber band, participants will create a balloon percussion instrument and a balloon flute. The aim of the workshop is to form a balloon orchestra and perform together, experiencing how individual sounds transform into a musical effect when played together under Ryu Hankil’s direction.
No instrument or musical training is required, and the conductor directs the orchestra with very simple hand signals (on and off).
The workshop is for all ages. There are 10–15 places (parents/carers can be a +1 for children if required).
It will take place at Woodside Halls, a fully accessible venue. There will be tea and coffee provided.
Participants should bring their own cup, bottle or bowl (made out of ceramic, glass or hard plastic).
