Saturday night welcomes a four way tangle, welcoming artists from Glasgow, Chengdu, Seoul and London.

After welcoming Beijing’s Yan Jun last year to Counterflows, we continue with our focus on China’s rich and sprawling underground music scene. This time we welcome an exciting new project from Chengdu – Soldier – an experimental duo, representing one aspect of the ongoing collaboration between Xiang and Yu Mingjing. Yu utilizes objects, high-speed rotating tools and the possibilities of images, while Xiang uses body, voice and violin. Together, they explore the sonic field where objects and the body converge.

Inweys, a new project from two Glasgow artists – Conal Blake & Murray Collier – perform their debut live show together. Having both worked extensively with electronics and percussive technologies, they bring this experience to Inweys: a vehicle for new weird exploration.

Seoul-based computer musician, improviser and writer Ryu Hankil will perform solo. Using the speculative power of sonic thinking, Hankil explores how sonic thinking can generate different music, function as a new cognitive system, and fundamentally and comprehensively reconfigure today’s reality. Expect sour, sharp, completely uncompromising radical computer music.

@xcrswx – the duo of Crystabel Efemena Riley (human/drum-skin) and Seymour Wright (saxophone) will round off the evening. Working with digital, analogue and ANDROID technologies, they create sound works and ideas that they explain, are to do with: “a span of human traditions, technologies and applications from the menstrual-bloody origins of cosmetics through evolution of reeds/drumskin ritual/musics, to Samsung and Audacity tools and attachments, Crunchyrolls and sub-woofer succulence.”

*  Working with Soldier is part of our 10,000 Elephants project and is supported by The British Council’s Connections Through Culture programme. The project is a collaboration between the You And Me festival and Yan Jun in Beijing, and Counterflows in Glasgow.
