Cucina Povera is a Fenno-karelian producer (Maria Rossi) with feet firmly in Glasgow, mind aloft in the imaginary and heart ambling around Europe.¬†Named after a style of southern Italian traditional cooking associated with precarity and making-do – it’s philosophy of simplicity and stoicism applies perfectly to the spare but beautiful music Rossi experiments with. Anchored by the hymnal dexterity of Rossi’s voice, her compositions weave her voice, bare synth lines and field recordings into circling mantra-esque refrains, forming an airy, reflective music that ravels and unravels over time.

Her debut album Hilja will be released at the end of January on Night School Records.
