Lithuanian Lina Lapelyte’s Candy Shop sextet of precisely-pitched harmony vocals might seem sweet on the surface, but after you have given it a listen for a few minutes, you’ll have an earful. With spare synthesiser, theremin, electronics and accordion accompaniment – as well as sporadic video – Candy Shop repurposes the sexist ranting of hiphop and rap to devastating effect. Did these women just sing what you thought they sang? You bet your sweet patootie. Candy Shop would be a sensation at the Edinburgh Fringe. Kate Molleson, Herald Scotland
