Delighted to present a live sound diffusion of new unreleased works by French artist Jean–Marie Massou, presented by La Belle Brute – a team of artists and recording engineers who work closely in collaboration with Massou.
Jean-Marie Massou will soon be turning 70 and lives completely alone, secluded in the middle of the Bouriane Forest in the South of France. During his time there (over 30 years) he has recorded a series of vocal sketches, field recordings, loops and montages made during his daily routine; singing into empty water wells, rolling massive rocks into underground tunnels, humming over the radio or simply recollecting his thoughts on tape. His first set of sketches were compiled on the stunning SODOROME 1 (released in 2016) and it has been on heavy rotation in Counterflows HQ ever since.
We are over the moon to present Massou’s beautifully personal and distinctive works in the UK for the first time. Alongside the diffusion of his unreleased works there will be a screening of the film on Massou (“Le Plein Pays”) and a discussion on his work by the La Belle Brute Crew.
